Road Safety Education Cell in Children Traffic Park

Objective:The Children Traffic Park serves as the nodal agency for organizing and coordinating efforts of all Government, Social and Corporate organizations in our community for spreading awareness about Road Safety. It is widely recognized today that the internalization of road rules and road discipline by the road users is a crucial prerequisite for ensuring safer roads and a smoother flow of traffic. Inspired by the "Catch them Young" philosophy, the Road Safety Education Cell (RSEC) focuses its major activities on teaching our children, the future drivers, the fundamentals of road safety. The RSEC is headed by a Sub-Inspector and assisted by other officials of Chandigarh Traffic Police. The function of the cell is to educate the general public regarding traffic rules and regulation.

Location: The RSEC is located inside the Children Traffic Park, Sector 23-A, Chandigarh. The aesthetically designed building of the Road Safety Cell is located inside the park. The premises include one exhibition hall, one record room and a lecture hall with a seating capacity for approximately 50 persons.



Road Crash Analysis Cell

Objectives: The Road Crash Analysis Cell is also located at the Children Traffic Park, Sector 23 A, Chandigarh and is responsible for the study of the road crashes to identify the underlying causal factors. This Cell also suggests factors like road engineering and other corrective measures to prevent the occurrence of road crashes.

The Cell compiles all road crash related data that is to be transmitted to the Transport Research Wing (TRW) of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India for incorporation into the national database. This data is also readily shared with all other government departments that are involved in the prevention of road crashes. The Cell also regularly presents road crash trends before the State Level Road Safety Council headed by the Advisor to the Administrator, U.T Chandigarh. The officials of the Cell are open to interaction with socially conscious organizations and concerned citizens who may offer fresh inputs based on their insights for developing effective strategies for the prevention of road crashes. The Cell also aims at generating debate and discussion, especially through the agency of print and social media, regarding the causes of road crashes and the steps needed to be adopted for their prevention.

The crash data comprises an important variable for working out the manpower and the resource requirement for effective enforcement of traffic laws and the prevention of road crashes. This research branch also facilitates students of various professional colleges by providing them road crash data for preparation of their dissertations and reports.
